Looks like the sensor is stuck in the startup sequence. Try removing batteries from sensor, pressing the button on it 20 times...

when I put the batteries in it counts up to 77 then the screen flashes then goes to r11 then in a short bit goes to....

1 then red light flash in bunches of 4. And the number on the screen changes to 101 or 102
