Testing for #SARSCoV2 has 3 broad aims
1) Clinicians can better diagnose #COVIDー19. This has limited utility b/c there's no specific Rx
2) PH requires knowing whose infected for contact tracing, isolation, #Quarantine
3) serologic surveys to understand community spread
Testing will ramp up, wider clinical guidance, more test kits, more labs. Impressive! But maybe it's too little, too late. We may have lost the window of opty for containment & may already have widespread community transmission. Miitgation doesn't rely much on testing
Sure, we must ramp up testing. It'll make patients feel better. But we've lost vital days & weeks. Major value of testing would have been soon after cases came to US. Two things: 1. Testing/isolation at managed facility, not at home. 2. Massive social-distancing. Close churches, schools, conventions, rallies, cruises..,,
But numbers after test ramps up will help social-distancing. Many just say, look, numbers are small, not a big deal
