DG @DrTedros should reconvene Emergency Committee. EC should include experts on diplomacy, security, anthropology. EC recs should include ideas for diplomatic, cultural, security solutions. Using the old public health playbook for an epidemic amidst political violence won't work.
Actually, name something PHEIC would add to the response that is now lacking & explain how/why it would speed stopping the outbreak. I was calling for PHEIC activation last Fall, but can't see how it would help now. PHEIC won't stop guns, firebombs, machetes.
My thought is that vaccine availability has made us too optimistic about containing the outbreak. Declaring a PHEIC will make this front page news and that’s exactly what we need so people realize that this outbreak is quickly spiraling out of control.
