Serious question: What will WHO get from declaring a PHEIC that it can't get now? How will a PHEIC help the people on the ground in DRC trying to contain the outbreak?
Some resist calling a PHEIC for Ebola DRC. Arguments: PHEIC could incite rebels to attack vaccine workers; & could cause travel bans. I get it, but status quo can't be the answer. Many lives at stake. PHEIC raises global alert, mobilizes $ & political attention. Now is the time.

The idea is that it will get money, resources and attention from a PHEIC, and it will make the international community take the outbreak more seriously. Though worth noting that resources and money came with Security Council Resolution not PHEIC declaration during 2014 outbreak.
