On artillery in Ukraine. “Russia is beginning to use artillery more effectively, says the official, concentrating it on a smaller number of targets along a narrower front, but is still struggling with “timely & accurate targeting”, as it did north of Kyiv”

A background briefing with a senior U.S. defense official about the war in Ukraine concluded a short time ago. It’s Day 68 since Russia’s invasion. Notable details:

There's a lot on here about the alleged wounding of General Gerasimov. and have the goods here. Gerasimov wasn't wounded, but "some 200 soldiers, including at least one general, were killed."

I think we are talking ourselves into an unnecessary crisis here posing a choice for Putin between having to back down and an absurd nuclear war. He has a very clear red line - no direct interference by NATO - which is being respected.

As with the plan for the May 9th "Victory Day" parade flyover there is also a plan for the actual parade. It also features some interesting details and differences, if compared to the parade from 2020 and 2021, that I will go through in this thread. 1/

The U.S. is NOT confirming that Russian chief of staff Gen. Valery Gerasimov is in Ukraine. But Russia has upped bombardments of Kharkiv, Ukraine's second largest city.

Almost enough to make you nostalgic for the Soviets; they were an evil government, but they took things like nuclear weapons seriously. Putin's Kremlin is just a bunch of gangsters who throw stuff like this around for the LOLs.

Because if military history teaches us anything, it’s that armies micromanaged by political leaders always do 👌.
