Parents may feel hesitant to immediately pursue a legal name change or start puberty blockers. They may drag their feet because this course of action feels very wrong. But the author ignores their concerns and implies they're transphobic. He blames "cisgenderism."

These therapists seem incapable of seeing another point of view. If a child says they're trans, they believe them, & set out to facilitate transition. Briggs feels actual therapy is "an unnecessary experience of psychosocial assessment." He pushes gender affirmation instead.pic.twitter.com/ld4BsWfIfe

Briggs writing drips with disdain for "cisgenderist" parents. How dare mom worry about the effects of puberty blockers! "Adam" has read all about it online/has a friend on PBs. Briggs warns mom that allowing puberty to proceed could have "serious mental health consequences."pic.twitter.com/6lLqDjzj84

Briggs browbeats mom/dad into using to use the "correct" pronouns, stating that is essential to the mental wellbeing of their child.pic.twitter.com/0YkHGb86LC

These parents have the gaul to: 1. want a diagnosis 2. hesitate to attend follow-up appts (in which they're pressured to OK transition) 3. feel distressed by this situation (they're told to hide their grief)

Throughout the paper, Briggs condemns parents for gaslighting their children. He attributes it to the parents' "cisgenderism" bias, but he fails to see that he (and the many therapists like him) are the ones with bias. And that they are the ones doing the gaslighting.

I wish I could report that Briggs' therapy is an anomaly, but it's not. Hundreds of parents, including myself, have interacted with gender-affirmative therapists who ignore our concerns. Briggs paper exemplifies our experiences. It's why we are speaking up.

Read it earlier. Gaslighting of parents by accusing them of gaslighting. Incredibly circular arguments. Quite chilling.

I'm concerned there are many kids, like my daughter, who misinterpret body/social role discomfort with being trans.

Some are more susceptible. Autistic kids. Likely LGB kids who are bullied for nonconformity. Sexually assaulted girls
