I posted about litigating and imposter syndrome and got an overwhelming and enlightening response. Some thoughts: (1) Gaslighting/attacking female attorneys/attorneys of color who represent marginalized groups is central to how the criminal justice system operates.

      (2) The criminal justice system is set up to pulverize the clients. It operates best when it gaslights the attorneys to derange and derail them so that they can no longer be effective. Women/POC are easier targets because they are easier to stereotype and dismiss.

No amount of "gold stars" will immunize you. It doesn't matter how long you've been practicing or how many awards you've won. It doesn't matter what you have written or how many people you have helped. To think otherwise is naive.

      (3) The system wants you to feel like you are nothing/stupid/incompetent/unethical so you will stop advocating for the people it is bent on crushing and so you will stop trying to disrupt the status quo it is bent on upholding.

Ask yourself: who is the imposter? The criminal justice system has the word "justice" as its middle name. But if you don't challenge it, it routinely delivers the opposite. The gaslighting & abuse seem to me to be directly proportional to one's effectiveness at disrupting it.

There are 2 ways to look at this. (1) To be defeated & cynical. (2) To keep fighting and disrupting, all the way to the end. Which means that there is only one way to look at it. In the end, it is the client who matters, and every inch gained is a victory.

Keep fighting! That’s how I’ve close every Robust Opposition since I started doing the show in Dec. 2016. I’d be honored to interview you if you have any interest. Here is my interview with @chesaboudin to give you a flavor of my show and style.https://youtu.be/SChg9KZrWDU
