That’s not what the word “defund” means. To defund is to stop paying for something, entirely.

Even if we were to fully defund the police (which may be the best avenue), we would replace it with alternative programs that do a better job, one of which would be a much smaller and properly trained group authorized to use force in those rare cases that need it.

Has anyone suggested that would happen? No, didn't think so. We need something BETTER than the police (social services, community investment, and yes, a specialized group that can still use force, but not abuse their power).

Improving the parents, improving the socioeconomic status of the family, improving the neighborhoods they live in, the schools they go to, and the other kids they hang out with. But you have to do *everything* and start *young* (as in, before 5-7 years old)
