Yeah I did Tech Crew in high school as well (albeit I took the class just to get a credit for graduation) but I basically got told cuz of my high pitched voice and tone that I wouldn't land a "masculine " role or any role for that matter. So I worked behind the scenes.
I did tech because at our school you had to log 20 tech hours to be eligible to audition for the last play of the year (usually Shakespeare) and I wanted to at least Audition. I think I finally stopped senior year.
Along with that I had self esteem/confidence issues that stopped me from trying out for gigs and whatnot. Plus my schools theater coordinator played HUGE favorites which didn't help. :(
