I have a thought and it’s a long one but bear with me: There’s a saying that goes, “Work begets work,” and that is true, but not only in the obvious way! Yes, the more you work, the more word gets out about you, the more experience you get, the more opportunities show up. BUT-

There’s more to it. The work doesn’t just have to be “you getting hired to do something,” it doesn’t have to be produced externally. You can create the work that gets you work- here’s how! All the work has to be is something that feels good creatively.

It can be a martial arts class, an acting class, writing original work, designing original characters, producing something you wrote, creating music— virtually anything, as long as it fills you up inside. It’s something you’re excited to do, and you have a goal in mind.

If you have things that are fulfilling to you already in your life and on your schedule- the opportunities that show up externally are less precious. You effectively take your power back because you’re not counting on chance to give you anything. You have it yourself.

SO- if you’re working on your own things that you love, and an audition or something comes along, cool. You do the audition. If you get it, great! If you don’t, cool! You still have your stuff that you’re focused on and driven by. Let me be clear:

When you are not desperate, your performance 𝙞𝙢𝙥𝙧𝙤𝙫𝙚𝙨. So it’s more likely you will be chosen. And even if you are not: 𝙄𝙩’𝙨 𝙣𝙤𝙩 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙚𝙣𝙙 𝙤𝙛 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙬𝙤𝙧𝙡𝙙. You’re already doing things you love to do.

I know it’s hard when we’re talking dollar signs and that’s a different issue. If you have to supplement your income while you hustle, it’s ok, because it’s all part of the same mission.

Circumstance doesn’t have to change the fact that you can feel good about what you do right now, which will move you forward in the long term. So, find what feeds your creativity, with or without someone else offering it to you in the first place. I believe in you.
