I am a polymer guy. The tires are very old. ? Is did it happen after driving or parked? If after driving it's from the rims if not slashed.

40 Year Master auto tech. Years of curb rub old sidewall failed "Slashes" are in line with direction of sidewall Plies. No way Slashed.

One more thing it's the right front tire.

How'd ya know? I just replaced 2 fronts cuz I got a flat and I (myself) ripped the rt frnt tire by my rims cutting through it pulling over.

Right front gets the most curb rub. And the '01-'04 Jeep Grand Cherokee is sitting backwards on a Flatbed.

Update.... the consensus is now a 2012 mfg date. Nevertheless, any fool should know a tire sidewall shouldn't look shattered.
