Isn't this when the next election would be anyways? What is special about this?

Representation matters, and Detroit won't have any for almost a year.
-
Well, this seems like a Voting arights Act violation. Assuming the SC hadn’t already gutted it and Sessions’ DOJ would never enforce it.

"A special primary election to fill the vacancy for the remainder of the term will be held on Aug. 7, 2018. The general election will be held on Nov. 6, 2018." Aug. 7, 2018 is eight months, not 11. Still bullshit, but accuracy seems important.

A primary is when each party picks its nominee. The general election, which will be in November, is when voters pick the winner that comes to Congress.
-
Yep, I misinterpreted it previously. The wording in the press release is not the clearest.

By design

Why didn’t he just pick someone to fill the seat until the general election in November? Reps run every two years. Republicans and democrats will still hold their primaries as usual. This makes zero sense.

Gov. Snyder: PHONE: 517-373-3400 PHONE: 517-335-7858 - Constituent Services FAX: 517-335-6863 You all know what to do.

I called as a Michigan resident. They’re not even taking names or contact information so I have no confidence the feedback will actually go to Gov. Snyder

Utter disruption of their daily business is a message in itself. Phones ringing off the hook will get noticed.
-
I don’t mean to discourage anyone from calling, it was just a pretty unprofessional operation compared to calls I’ve made in the past.
