Who are these space professionals who don't know this? Maybe SWF & Caelus weren't speaking with the best space professionals.
To be a professional in an industry, ones needs to read at least some industry news. China's private space industry has been in general space news publications for at least the past couple years. Knowing partners, competitors, & technology advances globally is not optional.
Trick Question, none of these Chinese companies are really private.

How ignorant do you have to be not to know this? You would have to take a determined effort in order to avoid any information about this basic fact. I think last year there 60-80 space start ups in China and several rockets in test trials.

Really bizarre. I transitioned into the space industry a few yrs ago and started to religiously follow space tech news from across the world. Then, realised that is actually my differentiator: to be aware of the developments, analyse them and deduce implications.
Oh, even with all this, I don't even consider myself to be a "space professional!"
