Need hadith expert view on claim "scriptural relationship" btw Islam/FGM. E.g. quoted
"Abu al- Malih ibn `Usama's father relates that the Prophet said: "Circumcision is a law for men and a preservation of honour for women."
Ahmad Ibn Hanbal 5:75; Abu Dawud, Adab 16" @rashadzali1https://twitter.com/GSpellchecker/status/1046728966139244549 …

Yeah. Opinion from the scholars ain't great news either. The schools or jurisprudence seem to range from noble to obligatory

Maybe. But fact that even
@mcb don't support FGM suggests there is at very least major disagreement on this point. Some Hadiths are seen as more credible than others. Want to know about the ones you've quoted.@mnizami_uk2 replies 0 retweets 0 likes -

This Hadith is graded Sahih, the highest grade of authenticity in orthodox Islam https://quranx.com/Hadith/Muslim/USC-MSA/Book-3/Hadith-684 … It contains the normative assumption in the words of the Muhammad character that both men and women are to be circumcised. No speaking against it, just tacit approval.

So you don't have to bathe if you're not circumcised!? I know that's not what you meant, but I simply wanted to understand the specific example
@GSpellchecker quoted. As@ms_eastern says, separate question whether being in hadith makes it mandatory - clearly (correctly IMO) not.4 replies 0 retweets 1 like -

I can't find the Hadith he's quoting in Abu Dawud. Not in Adab 16 anyway.

This is Adab 16. Nothing there about circumcision. I'm guessing a typo. https://sunnah.com/abudawud/43/16
