By the way, there are 100 members in this unicameral parliament elected for 4 years based on a proportional rule (with 5% threshold). The recently elected new parliament, the 14th, will start in November, while today was one of the last meetings of the 13th parliament.

Today I visited the parliament of Latvia, Saima. The parliament was in session, so no pictures were allowed in the assembly hall. But it was very special because visitors sit on the same floor as the members of parliament. A very good and close experience.

At the moment, I am the only visitor. Yet, I don’t know how many are watching the plenary session online.

On vacation this week, but democracy is always important: Today a brief visit to the Finnish parliament Eduskunta in Helsinki. An unicameral parliament with 200 members, elected every 4 years, from 13 districts plus one member from Åland.

One interesting aspect when looking closer: The described coordination mechanism (with gov. depts. & parliament) seems reactive (vote, co-sponsor, comment). Is there no need to be the pen holder, i.e. author resolutions, e.g. to promote #RuleOfLaw or #HumanRights ? #APlus4Peace
