Cuz most of those figures are based on the 3D Sonic games where you stare at his ass. (also the 2D games sometimes have you go to the left)

Even a lot of the Genesis era stuff has it on that side, and the newer Tomy stuff, I'm actually finding it hard to find a pic of a figure with it on the left side of his face, despite all the different companies making them. Is it some odd mandate from SEGA or something?

It's gotta be some unspoken rule or something. Nearly every figure/plush I've seen has the mouth to that side. Only a few exceptions I can think of, like the STF Super Sonic plush, and a vinyl TOMY Boom Sonic figure.

Hmm... I'm thinking because most people are right handed, and if they have sonic in the left hand, they wouldn't see the mouth. But that is a good observation!

It does, it's just lightly sculpted in, its the Jazwares Sonic and the Black Knight 5" figure.
