Selfish? Maybe. But they still have that right. It's the unfortunate consequence of the ad-based market
The only other options are you pay, or the artist does other things so he can live, taking away time from making content, so now there is less of it you can see or none. The money has to come from somewhere, and ads only cost you a couple seconds of time per video.

I'm all for being compensated for your work, don't get me wrong. This is just one of the risks of relying on ad revenue

And im arguing there is not realy a better solution, and unlesd you wanna pay for content or just get less of it to see, just suck it up and watch some ads. It benefits both makers and viewers.
