Parody/appropriation would take another whole damn guide to cover. It’s very legally grey. And intentionally so cause there are so many variables. Even doing something in fair use could face copyright action if the owner felt like it. It’s just…very weird to describe

@leonardjfrench has done some great videos on fair use.
But some tips:
All 4 factors have to be considered.
A parody has to actually be saying something or mock the original.
Fair Use is a legal defence to copyright infringement, only in court can something be declared FU.

Yup, parody is hard. To respond to the original and also talk about parody: It's perfectly okay to make a "not substantially similar" work that is inspired by the original. 1/

The frustrating part is you can qualify under fair use, meet 4 principles, and still deal with content owners disputing you, shooting down your defence to stifle you, and see them face no repercussions.
