There’s an opening discussion of the etymology of the word amateur and how the word in 19th century France was used to describe someone who literally admired art for its intrinsic qualities/beauty rather than profit as opposed to how we use the word today in a more negative way

There are other little gems like this, but most significant for me as someone who has never seriously considered the actual value of my art, it explores the investment side of art and the art world which is a perspective I’ve never been exposed to.
