That thread about moving to Bali as an American hits me in all the wrong ways knowing that Americans weren't taught how fucked up Indonesia has been to West Papua. That Indonesian soldiers literally kill West Papuans, every day. Moving there, even visiting, perpetuates that death

A great news article on it:https://time.com/5919228/west-papua-lives-matter-independence/ …

In my podcast, in the beginning of every episode I go through a few sentences on important events, BLACK LIVES MATTER/ FREE WEST PAPUA has been mentioned nearly every episode. My small way of amplifying this. I can't apologize now for my ignorance in the past but I can do better

1.What is wrong with relying on tourism for local economy? 2.Yes there has been human rights problem in Papua. But it is far from a genocide 3.I don't care if foreigner want to move to Bali if it's done legally but calling it perpetuating genocide is just irrelevant.

I didn’t know any of this thank you so much for sharing! The thread hit me in all the wrong ways because of the exploitation of the poverty in Bali but knowing this added context it makes it so much worse

Here's a closer look on the local's perspective. The conflict's never as simple as it seems. I do appreciate your concern about (some) west papuan movements but blindfolded empathy can be harmful to the rest of them

You can literally just as easily say “don’t glamorize being human when they literally are destroying the planet, glamorize being a human is perpetuating global warming” but that would be ridiculous
