Never going back to my ignorant insular ways. How was I so okay in the past with not knowing or bothering to connect with other brown people in the Pacific? I was worried their problems would make me hate everything. Instead, seeing & knowing their struggles opened my heart.

Insularity or "ignorance of or lack of interest in cultures, ideas, or peoples outside one's own experience" is so pervasive in American upbringings. Other people's problems "ruins the vibe" ughh muta
