Maybe a better question to ask than “Where are the Pacific Islander/Latinx/Asian/any other non-Black community of color at?” is “What about seeing Black people thrive in predominantly white spaces makes me draw these passive aggressive comparisons under the guise of diversity?”

It’s just cringey to keep seeing us nbpoc ask these questions, believing so fervently that they’re not also anti-Black in our ask. In numerous cases, the representation you’re seeking is there, you just didn’t see it because they’re Afro-Latinx, Afro-Asian, Afro-Pasifika, etc.

There’s something unconsciously threatening about seeing Black folks in their excellence that makes the rest of us nbpoc scramble to figure out why we’re not there too. Reflect on the scrambling more, is what I’m tryna say. Idk if that’s coming across clearly in this thread

Idk. Just thoughts as I see the same questions come across the TL from our communities today/all the time. I think the other question is “what are we expecting from these white-dominant spaces?” Always answering that for myself as well.

I wanted to ask, what if they say things like this because they don't live in spaces that are predominantly white and are trying to find spaces more for their causes? Most of the Pacific, for example.

Mmm that's a great question/point. It would definitely be different in that context (and this is a great reminder that the context I often speak from, unless otherwise noted, is from living here in the U.S.)

Pls excuse, I thought you were referring to these communities more broadly. Will keep that in mind, I hear you better now!
