Watching the tourism industry plummet feels like spending years painting a mural, only for the entire building to be torn down.
As someone who came from a place where the tourism industry vanished seemingly overnight (when Japanese airlines pulled flights from CNMI in the 2000's) I learned that the tourism industry is fickle & not your friend. The industry just wants to exploit & eye-rape the land & sea.

And I love Japanese tourists, but how come Guam doesn't charge all tourists more for just arriving here & enjoying our beauty? Why does the money go to certain rich settlers + Japanese companies & not to the community in a more meaningful way, perhaps to promote self-sufficiency?

Sorry for hijacking your tweet with rhetoricals lol. As somebody who had three jobs dependant on the tourism industry last year, I'm just bitter at how much the community & islands relying on tourism don't see much of that $$ (and they make LOTS). Our environment deserves better.
