I gather some dudes from Panama are grumpy that I described Gesha’s spread from Ethiopia to other countries as “theft”. Firslty, this transplanting of seeds was likely done by British colonials in the 1930s, ending up in places like Costa Rica in the 1960s. (1/2)

I struggle with those trying to protect “Panamanian Geisha” as valuable, as a brand and a crop, but not acknowledging how Ethiopia was unable to do this with Gesha due to Colonialism. (2/2)

Thank you for acknowledging colonialism as theft (among other things) because that's what it really was! Watering down the terminology doesn't have the same impact for change as saying it how it is.
