I'm short, brown, I'm a woman. I'm loud about my passions. I talk too much about them. I'm repetitive (it seems). Forgetful. I am a know-it-all to some, a "walking dictionary/thesaurus/encyclopedia" to my family and friends. I prefer reading over socializing. This can keep going.https://twitter.com/DoorHinge9/status/1288192265316372484 …

Some people get annoyed at times because to them I come across as a know-it-all, but then they also turn to me and ask for verification during conversations and get annoyed when I say I don't know.

I think about the times I spoke up about things I knew, thinking I was being helpful because an engineer's mind is all about improving efficiency, but instead it caused negative reactions. As a result, I don't talk as much anymore, which now makes me seem more antisocial.

sorry that happened to you. It has happened to me too, mostly online. Another part of it I think for me is that tone cannot be easily conveyed through words, & I am guilty of absent-mindedly composing things to say without regard to how it sounds or critically thinking.2 replies 0 retweets 1 like -

Yeah, people never realized how hurtful comments like "that's just the way Drew is" can be. It made me reflect on myself and doubt my own intentions, so now I just try to be conscious about speaking up only when asked. Not the ideal solution, but it's better for my mental health.

Mental health is important! Take care of yourself. At least there are people out there who know you have good intentions.
