Lately I’ve been thinking about how we use “on Guam” instead of “in” because our geography has shaped our use of English and nothing feels inland. Like we would never say “on California” but we would say “on Rota”, “on Saipan” etc.

I forget who when or where but someone once told me it actually comes from military language of being “on base” and service people would say they are stationed On Guam... and it kinda stuck.
