Love this piece Kyle! But I have a few things to say about your suggestions: we are colonized. So the trade we could be having with other nearby countries is limited by our colonizer. Exporting off-island is costly bc of our colonizer. Our high cost of living is bc of our status.https://twitter.com/PostGuam/status/1283850152080547841 …

I agree with your main point: this pandemic is a wake up call for many that we must look within ourselves for the answer to generating a good, self-sustaining living. We must stop looking for others to come & fill our pockets. We must wean ourselves off capitalism & from the U.S.

Thanks so much for your feedback; I agree that our current political status inhibits many hopeful realities, however, the intent of the piece was to ignite a subtle thought of ‘a freer Guam’ with the generel public without ostracizing others who fear the term “decolonization.”

I totally get you there. I'm working on a podcast episode now actually about it! I'm not going to make it seem like its an easy or light topic: it isn't, but if you recognize it, you begin to see how it has seeped into every crevice of our existence. It can be done though.
