When people say “racism is everywhere, it’s just a fact of life” what they really mean is “I don’t experience racism regularly, so it doesn’t bother me.” That’s called privilege and it needs to be acknowledged if society is going to move forward.

I’m glad you had a support network. My mom’s a teacher and for 30 years she would tell me about her students’ lives and I realized having good parents and a safe home is a privilege as well. Ty for the love, doing my best every day to not be ignorant and not destroy myself.
