When people say “racism is everywhere, it’s just a fact of life” what they really mean is “I don’t experience racism regularly, so it doesn’t bother me.” That’s called privilege and it needs to be acknowledged if society is going to move forward.

I’m always working towards not being mad at people not knowing what they don’t know. I didn’t come to these realizations until I wasn’t the majority anymore. I also understand only taking on as much as your heart and mental health can handle. It’s a delicate balance.

I acknowledge that me feeling passionately is a result of among other things not having many things to numb me growing up, and being able to have access to a support network of my sisters. Which are privileges themselves that not everyone has. I am still flabbergasted though.
