Update: I was informed that Ryan Calvo has psychological issues. I disagree with his opinions, but I would like to apologize for the personal attacks. I should be more civil regardless of how passionately I feel. Sorry.https://twitter.com/dillp671/status/1279617922395107328 …

Are you saying that people can run for elected office on Guahan with psychological issues? There's no law against that??

Yes. As they should be. Mental illness covers a wide spectrum but also carries a lot of stigma. Having a mental illness does not disqualify someone from running or mean they're unable to perform the job well.

Sorry I should clarify that I had not thought "psychological issues" and "mentally unwell" were one and the same. I agree to some extent as this is not a black and white issue, the stigma these labels carry does not help either.

It is, however, something I think voters need to know about, along with other things usually kept private for transparency. The good work people do I think speaks for itself, regardless of health/financial issues. But ofc this is how I would like things to be, not how they are.

Where would you draw the line? Would you like to look at their entire medical history so voters can see if there's a history of mental illness? There are mechanisms in place to remove elected officials who are unfit.

Not at all. I would say I think the entire history is unnecessary, but I would not want to wait until someone is voted in to know how unfit they are for their office. I mean look at Guam's Delegate. I mean look at Trump. Mechanisms to remove once in are too little and not enough.

Btw I use those two not as examples of people with mental illness, but as public servants who have wasted the Government's time while in office to the utmost. I think perhaps voters knowing aspects of their medical, criminal, & financial history beforehand would've been helpful.
