Update: I was informed that Ryan Calvo has psychological issues. I disagree with his opinions, but I would like to apologize for the personal attacks. I should be more civil regardless of how passionately I feel. Sorry.https://twitter.com/dillp671/status/1279617922395107328 …

Are you saying that people can run for elected office on Guahan with psychological issues? There's no law against that??

I'm not sure. On one hand, someone with mental illness should have the right to run and their medical history should be private. On the other hand, voters have the right to know who they are voting for. It's complex :/

I always believed once you seek election or are elected into public office, your finances, medical history, and other information then should become public information also

Yeah as hard as this is, running for office means transparency is necessary. Hiding any of this speaks volumes. There is a stigma associated and that is unfortunate, but if someone wants to work for the people & represent them, the people have a right to know who that person is.

I agree, but also this transparency makes it so our leaders do not seek medical attention related to mental health. I'd also argue that it infringes upon their right to privacy. All tough situations.

Ahh so you're thinking once they get elected in. I am thinking before they are elected. Obvs this is not a cut and dry black & white issue, but unfortunately transparency is of the utmost importance these days.

For transparency, I was struggling with depression when I was a soldier. I knew I could never seek help for it: I would get chaptered out. I eventually lost my civilian job, girlfriend, house, dog, & still got chaptered out. Had I been able to seek help it might've gone different

I am so sorry about that dude. Depression doesn't pick and choose who it affects. I would say it made you more aware of yourself, made you more resilient, like it did me, but it doesn't manifest the same in everybody. Depression and mental healthcare shouldn't be stigmatized.
