“We as children of Oceania are like a canoe. Having been carved from the tree, we voyage across oceans...The identities we carry are as much the tree as our voyages are shaping us to be the canoe. We are voyaging, and at the same time, we are rooted.”pic.twitter.com/SAbM2RBT2F

I never questioned my identity until I left home. Never felt what it was like to be a minority. Never realized that my roots in the Asia Pacific were where I draw all my strength.

Ty @LaniKnowsBetter for the beautiful discussions you’ve been having. I’ve been holding onto my canoe for dear life these past couple months because of the insane voyage I’ve been on, and now I truly appreciate the strength of my canoe and the tree it was built from

That is so beautiful Petey
that you realized the source of your strength & drive was shaped by being from here, & rooted. I'm so happy you found that. I found it when I left home too. Been voyaging in my canoe for years now but coming back home always humbles & restores me

Thanks for providing the space to help all us children of Oceania to figure out these complex feelings and put them back together in a way that’s bigger than the sum of their parts

I will ALWAYS! It is literally a PRIORITY of mine to make everyone start this convo within, with themselves first. What you don't water will always lie dormant, knowing this, I can't ignore this part of me now.
