Kanta CHamoru, after dinner the people would sit around sing about what was going on, sometimes in a teasing, flirtatious, or emotional manner. It was a way to express your self to music. Think spoken word, rhythmic speaking or a poetry slam. A way to destress.

You can see it as "Chanting." Also I learned from my Uncle Dådu, to focus on a task or art, like carving, weaving, and even the likes of bushcutting, to have only that one thing in your head, cleansing of any other thought, block everything out.
