Chamorros: normalize not having an oven in the house! We barely use it! Fawken we buy a full range kitchen stove pues use portable butane burner. The only thing we bake is shit like banana bread.

The underground oven that you build usually to roast a pig for a big party, lined w/ hot rocks. "Uhm" is pronounced like "oohm" but I truly don't know how to spell that. Sounds Refaluwasch too but idk. My haole bro in law was HELLA excited to make one last time he was in SPN

How cool!! To be honest, the Marianas had no large mammals pre-colonization, so its very possible that this was a practice we came about only after the introduction of them. How it came about, I'm not sure. I've read before about ancient Chamorros burying food to be eaten later.
