How are we talking about reopening the island when our testing capacity is so small? 258 test daily for a population of about 168,775?

If I understand correctly from the press conference, one of the standards to be met is the capacity to test at least 178 tests per 100k residents per day.

Cool so we’ll know by 2022 if we’re good now.

Well... Testing capacity should increase. So maybe if anything, ahem... Excuse me "f'anything" Maseha... "

Has anybody asked why test? I mean, there’s no vaccine....so a test would only confirm if a person has it.....& they would be put in isolation? What would an increase in testing provide? Like, a third of the island could be positive and not get tested....

A great reason to increase testing is that then we will have better data (within a margin of error for false positives/negatives) on where we stand with the virus compared to the population. With the high standards of "priority testing" that we've been following, we dont have it.

We have been using the test so far as a diagnostic tool to confirm people with the highest chance of testing positive bc they have symptoms. But since we have no data on asymptomatic or pre-symptomatic carriers, how will we really know where the curve is?

To say the curve is flattening could be true! Or it could be premature. There are unique barriers we have on island to consider too. You are right about wondering what it would accomplish with no vaccine This is a good read to make sense of it worldwidehttps://m.greenwichtime.com/opinion/article/Far-more-people-in-the-U-S-have-the-coronavirus-15150191.php …
