One Guam is a lie, always has been. Its just truly showing now that there's an actual crisis happening

Navy wives don’t represent the military as a whole. The military can’t help solve the problem if it lets people on base and the virus spreads. It also goes both ways. There are people who are on the base who are quarantined and can’t go off base to do things. I’m one of them

In WWII the entire US Navy presence left here immediately following their dependents. Leaving Guam defenseless to the Japanese. If you knew our history youd know that the gofundme's were just the first sign. This segregation energy during a crisis doesn't bode well.

They left to support neighboring islands that already had been invaded by japan. If the navy didn’t leave, marines never would’ve freed those islands and then Guam. Sometimes in order to move forward you have to go back. I know the history, I was born and raised on guam

Can you just stop trying to justify the use of our islands by the military??? We are sick of it. If you were "born & raised" on Guam they fed you even worse history than in the NMI. The military abandoned the islands bc they were overwhelmed. Guam was never a priority, even now

These islands are NOT "freed", we are colonized for our strategic location and had much taken from us. You as a military member and non-native could never understand, so pause your dialogue & allow us our space. Doesn't matter if you were born & raised here (if you really were).

Hi 👋🏾Not trying to be a jerk here but @AsfahaHaile you do not know the history. The Navy left days ahead of the invasion and evacuated ONLY white dependents. It wasn’t in defense of another island. It wass an evacuation. The forces that returned did so 3 years later.

Even with that being the cause, you all do understand that if it wasn’t the US, it would be imperial japan, and in that point in history that was way worse for the people. I’m not saying the military on Guam is amazing or anything. just saying it could’ve been way worse

It was imperial Japan for 3 years because the Navy hightailed it out of here. Don’t you recall the tens of thousands of us that were executed and forced into work camps? So the whole it-would’ve-been-worse argument? It was worse we just lucked out that we’re strategically located

I honestly don’t know how I got here. If you scroll back I literally just wanted to make a remark about the quarantine. Not the military’s presence on guam and it’s people/resources. That’s a completely different topic

We got here because you were defending the military presence out here in OUR islands. How they "freed" us from a horrible colonizer. How they did not abandon Guam. The military is not confined to one topic out here in the islands, they are pervasive to everything. That is how.

I personally still don’t think abandonment is the best word, and I do think military presence on guam is necessary. Just not to the extent it’s at currently. They’re definitely keeping other foreign super powers from coming in and doing their thing

Last thing I’ll say is this. The US definitely could be doing a better job, but compared to what could’ve been and what could potentially be, id say things aren’t absolutely terrible for the time being

I’ll concede that things aren’t terrible. But I also understand the legacy of injustice, forced assimilation and violence the military has brought here. Our behavior is a result of that history and lack of acknowledgement or blind ignorance to it. I hope you understand us.
