As someone who works in architecture, it’s disappointing how often locals are quick to dismiss new construction. Not all developments are bad- many of which are aimed at boosting our economy and way of life.
Maybe people have a different way of seeing their "way of life" being boosted besides development of more urban sprawl?

I can agree with that. I just feel like the negative connotation behind development prevents some good work from being done. We shouldn’t be a concrete jungle, but we ought to update facilities / infrastructure to match our growing population and it’s needs.
