Lent is coming up and I just need to get this off my chest: try giving up alcohol, processed sugar, or meat instead of rice if you want to make an impact on your health

Every year people give up rice to combat their diabetes, gout, heart disease etc without researching what rice is and if it actually contributes to those lifestyle diseases

But if you look into the history of rice and the people who have sustained themselves on it for millennia (Asian cultures especially) you would see that if eaten in a balanced way without too much of what I mentioned giving up instead rice is actually fine

Much of the research that demonized rice was written by white Western people and it does not take into account the people who have evolved to eat it. When rice was replaced with wheat in many Asian diets, health outcomes plummeted. For Chamorus, rice was grown traditionally

We have a much bigger problem within our diets in that we consume crazy amounts of processed meat, processed sugar, and alcohol. These imported food and drinks have a high negative impact on our health and on the environment( due to the systems that produce and send them here).

It boggles my mind how some ppl say that their diet excludes rice but consists mainly of red meat(!?!?!), poultry and dairy. I saw someone say that and I was so flabbergasted.
