In a large sense the notion that were irredeemably corrupt is a colonists idea.

People want to believe we’re too inept, too backwards to properly rule ourselves.

“Taotao Marianas can’t do anything right so we need to rip to shreds any local who rises to the top. How could ably local be an adequate ruler? They come from the CNMI which is backwards and inept and corrupt. He must have cheated, he must have been dirty.”

Where does that attitude come from? The Spanish, the Japanese, the German, the American. The colonialist.

It was the colonialist who told you that the indigenous is inherently wrong, sinful, dirty, thieving. That the indigenous must be rooted out in every instance, in ever expression.

That’s where the celebration of the FBI investigation comes from. No one wants to question why the feds came in on this. Why did it have to be the colonialists? You mean we could impeach Fitial by ourselves but we need the feds for Torres?

And yet people celebrate. Fam. This is an offense to our state government’s power and autonomy.

Do not celebrate an outside power coming in to take from us the political leader elected by a majority of the Marianas in a free and just election. Even if your gåyu lost this investigation is a total loss for the CNMI.

I personally hope the gov beats the charge, and this is coming from a person who voted Babauta.

Yes, I disagree with the Torres admin getting cozy with IPI. Yes, I wish the casino would be washed away in a tsunami and placed at the bottom of the trench. But recognize an affront to the CNMI’s autonomy when you see it.
