As much as I agree that this system sucks, I highly recommend you try applying for the Discover It student card. I got one, after 3 months of responsible payments they upped my limit without me asking. I use this, and Chime, and a few other building tricks like creditbuilder.

I second this! My very first cc was the Discover student card. I was 23 and just finishing grad school and they approved me with my limited income, big student debt, and 0 credit card history.

Sorry I forgot to say, you don't have to be. They have a Discover It card for people fresh out if college or who are just looking to build their credit as well. I mentioned Chime bc they are a great online bank that doesnt put holds on your funds before releasing them to you.
