Dude Dave Davis on Guam doesn't want a Chamorro/native inhabitant-only vote. John Davis on Saipan doesn't want NMD-only owned land. I love Mr. Davis for being my teacher but MAN WHEN I FOUND OUT ABOUT HIS LAWSUIT I WAS BIG MAD.

I credit my strength in writing to him but dislike his attitude when it comes to our land. It might be stagnating the economy a bit but I don't want it to end up like Guam/Hawaii where billionaires can own all the land at the drop of a bag.1 reply 0 retweets 2 likes -
And then the natives go homeless. This is not America, and that’s not according to me, thats according to the Insular Cases. Natives would be safer if we were our own countries.

To clarify, I’m fine with not being American or America. In exchange they gotta be fine without grabbing at our land. We gotta protect that or else we ABSOLUTELY will be marginalized. Happens to indigenous folks around the world.

We have less lancheros, less talayeros, less peskadot as we continue to replace traditional values with consumerism, wherein we go out and work and put that on top of everything. Imagine us landless on top of that. Måkpo’, måtai.

We’re gonna be stuck at our jobs, miserable. Getting fat. Dying of diabetes. In our despair some turn to drugs. Violence goes up, families break up. And meanwhile, the upwardly mobile settlers make more and more and we sell our land to stay afloat.

When we can’t pay their rent they kick us out. Davis. This is the future you want, just because you feel you’re being discriminated against. Che’lu we aren’t treating you the way whites treated your people. They segregated you because they thought you were inferior.

Davis don’t do this. Article 12 was not put in place because we think taotao haya are inferior. (It wasn’t even our idea. The US Congress was the one who added this in) We know that land is life. Don’t treat us the way whites treated your people : as backwards and incapable

As someone who plans to live in the CNMI & raise my kids there (& Guam maybe too), I hear you. I understand. This feeling is mutual.
