I want to know: what does being Chamoru mean to you? And do you struggle with not feeling Chamoru enough too?https://twitter.com/chloebabauta/status/1142499655718035456 …

To me being Chamorro is a struggle. On Saipan I feel like it's used too often to put unqualified ppl in positions of power simply due to family ties. On Guam it saddens me to see my people on the side of the road, evicted from or sold their land, struggling just to get by.

I forgot to add: I do not struggle with feeling not Chamorro enough. I am by virtue of blood and knowing I'll keep the culture alive through my future actions and raising my kids that way. I wish I was more fluent, but all I have to do is go home for a while & I'll gain it back.
