Can we talk about how chemical leaks from leftover radio equipment at Cocos has poisoned much of Southern Guam who gets their fish from there or should we just continue to let things slide?

Also let’s talk about how the Feds made a channel through the lagoon, destroyed critical coral/reef life, and left dangerous chemicals with lengthy half-lifes.

The craziest thing is, the equipment was known to be abandoned there but wasn't cleaned up til nearly 40 freakin years later. 40. Years. Of. Leakage. Cleaned up around the 1980's. And people are still eating fish from there til this day.

That’s true stuff. I wonder if that’s why the miñahåk that hasn’t eaten yet is supposedly the best? I’m from Malesso’ so unfortunately I have been unknowingly consuming the fish down here since I first tried atulai,i’e & miñahak.

The only thing the military did was issue an "advisory" in the newspaper that was quick & quiet, advertise the meetings I went to in the paper in the same way (a tiny article), so not a lot of people know this..otherwise they're liable to be sued if someone can prove direct harm

BUT if those are mostly the fish you been eating, you're not so bad off. The fish they found with high concentrations of toxins NOW (idk about in the past) from a 2013(?) study were the ones that stayed still and ate things like coral and algae. Mostly near the island.
