When I picked up that book in 8th grade I was on a reading binge. I burned through books so fast. This one took me MONTHS. The language of the slaves was so hard to spin a good story out of in my imagination. I finally started to like it only after they sold Uncle Tom

Through the eyes of the slaves and owners I got to understand why reading was such an important and rare skill to slaves back then. It made me thankful for my gift of reading. And then the little girl who fought so hard for them died in the end and I cried like a bbb

I can see why a book like that sparked a revolution. I can see the importance of learning language & how it dictates your life and can take you to the next level. Reading, writing, and speaking well is an art, but you don't need a private school education to get good at it.
