    Today's contribution to is the motte & bailey Bramber founded in 1073 to hold the coast. Today it's later gate house tower survives as a rather majestic monolith.

    As it's Sunday and all, here's a superb owl brooch, discovered on Island in Denmark. Possibly originating from the Rhine/Danube Roman frontier, it is unclear how it ended up on a Danish island
