It's not an either or scenario. You probably had the support of family while you were trying to get on your feet looking for a job/education as a young adult. That's what this is acting as rather than throwing them out on the street with nothing as soon as they turn 18.

They were already eligible for welfare if poor or unemployed. This now just literally incentivizes those most at risk for unemployment/poverty to remain unemployed/poor. What about scholarships for trade school? Secondary ed? City college is already free.

UBI done right should be blind to poor or unemployed. It would incentivize people to not be underemployed. To use that money to gain a stable spot to gain work experience or master an art to add to society.
