  2. All in a Monday morning's work - two handsome seamen to keep me company as I clear of contents (not to mention Richard & Simon of course 🙂). Also (I assume) a couple of farriers' irons - wonder if they might even be 19thC too.

Can anyone identify this rather charming pair of chess players? Looks like hard paste porcelain and I'm just wondering if it could possibly be Bow or similar. No mark, just very light scratch marks almost too faint…

We have pretty lovely offices at Shottesbrooke - but how about this for the HQ of the like-minded Vereniging Hendrick de Keyser in Amsterdam. Always good to share experience of saving and reusing historic buildings at risk - Brexit or no Brexit.

So ok, , this might be (is!) a nerdy question, but I'm wondering how early ceramic pipes started to be used for water pipes. I think terracotta was sometimes used in the middle ages - but does anyone know when stoneware started to be used for water pipes?

We have this Shell poster of hanging on our office walls, been there for years and long before we saved the tower by moving it back from the crumbling cliff edge! Now you can stay in it of course... and what a view!

Being mid writing of an article on Robert Hooke, 17thC scientist & architect, I was excited to be at the Monument today before a meeting, all designed by Hooke. Specially pleased to revisit Caius Cibber's plaque of Charles II comforting London, swooning under 1666 flames.
