Bezos is of course known for drilling writing into his meetings and reports, which I think is very important. if you can't clearly explain what you're proposing/researching/etc in writing, then you don't fully understand what you're doing. rec'd reading:https://blog.usejournal.com/writing-docs-at-amaon-e025808616bd …

this became of greater importance after Bezos banned powerpoints. this article published in the Armed Forces Journal that explains why bullet points and powerpoint-based presentations are a waste of time (for the most part, I agree, but PP has some uses)http://armedforcesjournal.com/essay-dumb-dumb-bullets/ …

interestingly, Stripe never actually explicitly stressed the importance of writing in the company (I'm not counting job ads). the founders and early team embodied the importance of writing, and it spread to other team members as the company grewhttps://twitter.com/shaunyou/status/1068675075254042625?s=19 …

I think
@SlackHQ does a really good job of this as well. You can tell they care about the written word and the impact it can have. -
I've only seen their website copy, and I agree on that front. did you have any other slack examples in mind?

Hi Lama
check out chapter "The Wrong Time for Real-Time" from "it doesn't have to crazy at work". A quote below. -
Important topics need time, traction, and separation from the rest of the chatter. If something is being discussed in a chat room and it’s clearly too important to process one line at a time, we ask people to “write it up” instead.
-
This goes together with the rule “If everyone needs to see it, don’t chat about it.” Give the discussion a dedicated, permanent home that won’t scroll away in five minutes.

Absolutely getting more and more popular now to write longer form for many roles. What tools are used at Stripe and how well do they work to help with that type of communication?
-
I don't work at stripe, so I don't know what specific tools they use (maybe
@homsiT can help?)@patrickc explains a bit of it herehttps://twitter.com/patrickc/status/1069411898179743745?s=19 … - 2 more replies

One form of this that others underweigh too much still is how writing is the best form of communication by far when you take into account future employees. And the more bullish you are on your company the larger percentage is future employees
