We never baby talked to our kids. I agree with the OP about not babytalking, but not the rest. Also, being billingual (Greek/Dutch), they both talked after 3.

I taught my daughter when she was 2 that the reason why if you cut something in half you cannot put it back together is "2nd law of thermodynamics". In the beginning she pronounced it as "2nd law of rhinoceros" and thought it was the funniest thing (it was).

Now that she is 3, she agrees that we cannot put it back together cause of the 2nd law of thermodynamics, but says "we can pretend" it's back together, then eats the banana holding the two halves together.

. I will admit though that my elder daughter’s first toys were an axolotl (freebie from some stem cell company with a booth at ISSCR) and a NASA astronaut monkey. Her earliest vocabulary included axolotl and NASA. -

My husband and I never talk baby talk to our kids.That is because I do not have a husband and I do not have kids.But I do puppy talk to Bruna because she is almost 4 months old.I guess she barks in german because she is a schnauzer but I do not care at all. We just love eachother
