When I'm on my bike, cars drive me nuts, when I'm in my car it's the opposite. Authors v. reviewers are similar. When reviewing/responding, imagine the person is in the same room. Authors: remember reviewers spend 7 hours on your paper. Reviewers: remember authors spend 7 years

Thoughts on my run: What I love about training for a big race is the value of formative & summative evaluations (improved daily runs vs race day goal). So much more straightforward than other life goals, like raising kids, sustaining relationships, evolving a career.

We are very excited to have Dr. Sabbi Lall join the LSE team! Sabbi is an editor-extraordinaire, with broad experience across the life sciences, after years as the EIC and an editor before that. I'm so excited to finally officially work with her!

Probably a no-brainer, but I just switched "I think that" in an email to "I agree that" and realized how much better this conveyed what I was trying to say, explicitly acknowledging and appreciating who contributed what.

Boy did I need this today. "Getting comfortable with being uncomfortable". I'm halfway there: I don't feel at all like running today (but I will). On running: "And then something unexpected happened. I realized I could do a lot of other impossible things."

Week 4 in the books. My notes and details are becoming more sparse. Am feeling a bit depleted by all the running and wondering if the tail is wagging the dog! Perhaps this is a stage of development/training/life.....

Please RT! We have 12 4-year Postdoc positions on "Targeted Protein Degradation". This is a great opportunity to work in a collaborative and stimulating environment on an exciting topic. My lab is hiring, too!!

Oh how I loved which is woven into the fabric of our family experiences now. "There’s this beautiful thing you can do as a writer. ‘The show’ ended too soon. You wanted more. But that’s just what you get. It’s a little too short. It’s a lot like life.”

We have everything in the lab monitored with a bunch of raspberry pi that slacks to alarm channel if anything (cryo, -80, incubator, etc). I am sure those could DM you on Twitter instead ;-) happy to share

Always a pleasure to work with Yuki and stay on top of this cool field. "Our findings highlight multiplexed processing of piRNA precursors that supports robust and flexible biogenesis"

I often see authors rephrase concepts or players throughout a paper/grant as a (too subtle) explanation. I advise against it - sometimes the reader will not know you are rephrasing, and will think you are talking about something different. Define a term and STICK WITH IT.

My husband and I never talk baby talk to our kid. We enforce work-related topics. My child isn’t even 2 yet and can draw the PI3 kinase pathway. Adults at family gatherings are shocked when my child explains the importance of model organism research.

My wife and I never talk baby talk to our kid. We enforce academic seminar norms and jargon. My child isn’t even 2 yet and can interrupt presenters on the first slide. Adults at family gatherings are shocked when my child asks a question that turns out to be more of a comment.
